Education expertise and exports

Jyväskylä is well known for its extensive education expertise. The University of Jyväskylä has trained professionals in the field of education and training for over a century. In fact, the 19th-century cleric and educator, Uno Cygnaeus, established the first Finnish-language teachers’ seminary in Jyväskylä more than 150 years ago.

 EduCluster Finland (ECF)

Educluster Finland is an expert network working with customers from around the world to create paths to learning and development. In Finland, EduCluster offers services in education quality and assessment, as well as coaching for aspiring international experts.

ECF operates in the fields of education system reform, professional development, teacher training, and teaching quality assessment and development. It also supports employment by way of developing vocational and higher education. ECF also offers short-term expert programmes for different groups interested in subjects such as the Finnish education system.

Geographically, activities focus on the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC), Asia, Latin America and Finland. ECF is part of the University of Jyväskylä group. Its owners include the University of Jyväskylä, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, and the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium. Read more about EduCluster Finland.

EduFutura

JAMK University of Applied Sciences, University of Jyväskylä and the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium have signed a cooperation agreement to create a unique model for different levels of education. EduFutura aims to establish Jyväskylä as Finland’s leading competency centre for key sectors such as learning, research, development, testing and application.

The city has earmarked education reform, health, rehabilitation, wellness, exercise and education exports as its most internationally important sectors. Strategic national sectors include bio-economy, applied cybersecurity, entrepreneurship and the Finnish Music Campus, an educational and research joint venture of JAMK University of Applied Sciences, University of Jyväskylä and the Jyväskylä Education Consortium.

Students are at the heart of EduFutura programmes. A common goal is to make the student’s learning path effective and flexible by ensuring smooth transitions and accreditation procedures between different levels of education. This is achieved by developing pedagogical approaches, eliminating duplication and promoting joint implementation. In addition, the goal is to provide coordinated student counselling and support services.

EduFutura’s aim is to generate new business activity based on a high skill level and to strengthen business models that have a constructive impact on employment and students’ job prospects. It also aims to increase mobility of experts in Finland, globally and among educational institutions. The goal of this cooperation is for EduFutura Jyväskylä to become a more agile and approachable partner for businesses.

NPDL (New Pedagogies for Deep Learning)

NPDL is an international research and development programme for learning, teaching and operational culture of schools. www.npdl.global

NPDL is a global pedagogical frame of reference that offers tools and training for learning transformation as well as support for developing different practices. The goal is to teach children and teens future skills and help them develop a broad skill set. The frame of reference is influenced by the world’s leading pedagogical experts and it supports adopting new education curricula.

In Finland, participants in the programme include municipalities and Microsoft, who are working in cooperation to advance the digitalisation of education and to create new learning ecosystems. Microsoft and participating municipalities fund the programme.
