KUKKULA AND THE HOSPITAL OF THE FUTURE

Preventive healthcare solutions, digitalisation increasingly important

Jyväskylä’s new central hospital is a hospital of the future in which the point of the departure is the customer, in other words, the patient.

Customers will be offered a complete service in which prevention and well-being occupy a significant role. Construction of the new hospital has begun and it will be finished in 2020.

Alongside the hospital commercial, research and production premises totalling 30 000 – 50 000 floor square metres will also go up, providing new opportunities for business connected to health, care and housing for the elderly as well as a new, innovative and cyber secure environment for enterprises in the well-being and health technology branches.

In the area a network comprising enterprises, educational institutions, customers and healthcare personnel will also be set up, in which completely new solutions can be created and piloted.

The scale of the project is roughly 200 000 floor square metres while investments in the area will total approximately EUR 600-700 m. The project as a whole is known by the name ”Kukkula” [“Hill”].

AT THE HEART OF THE CLUSTER WILL BE A NEW HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES INNOVATION LABORATORY, CAMPUS FI

Kukkula will be developed as part of the Campus FI project. The project aims at establishing how Kukkula can be turned into a strong centre of expertise in the health and social sectors founded on close collaboration between actors - a ”Living lab”.

At the heart of this cluster will be a new Health and Social Services innovation laboratory, Campus FI. The innovation laboratory will embrace broad-ranging and cross-cutting research, development, innovation and educational activity.

The guiding idea behind the innovation laboratory is an all-embracing view of the population’s health. At the laboratory the focus will be on solutions to the challenges of preventive healthcare, rehabilitation and self-care, without ignoring the impact of digitalisation.
